Description

The MeltView® PIXI is a ruggedized welding camera specifically engineered to provide high-definition monitoring in confined and demanding environments. The PIXI measures 30mm (1.8”) in diameter and weighs approximately 120g (4.23oz). The camera's size makes it ideal for challenging applications where space is limited, including cladding, orbital tube welding, and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW).

Utilizing High-Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, the MeltView® PIXI captures both the blinding intensity of the welding arc and the critical details of the surrounding weld pool with high resolution.

  • Seamless Transitions: The camera automatically switches between arc-on and arc-off modes.
  • Direct-to-Monitor Viewing: Operators can directly monitor the weld at 1920 x 1080 HD resolution. No separate computer or software is required.
  • Near-Zero Latency: HD-SDI output provides a direct-to-monitor setup for immediate, real-time operator feedback.

The PIXI is built for harsh industrial conditions. With its integrated water cooling system, it can operate in temperatures up to 400°C (752°F). The camera can be positioned as close as 2" (51 mm) from the weld. The PIXI is recommended for GTAW (TIG), PAW, SAW, and LBW applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend a monochrome image for the clearest image across all welding processes. A color image is sometimes preferred for TIG welding / GTAW, since TIG is relatively simple to image and color can provide information about the weld.
No. Our HD-SDI camera line features a direct-to-monitor setup, providing 1920 x 1080 resolution feed with near-zero latency, eliminating the need for a PC or software. A MeltView® camera controller is required to interface with and power the camera.
For SAW or inspection, color A optics are selected. Monochrome (B and D) cameras provide greater light sensitivity, increased arc suppression and sharper images than color open-arc (C) cameras. Monochrome cameras are ideal for tracking applications where a wide field of view is essential. For some TIG/PAW and LBW applications, a color (C) image may be preferred. A: Color suitable for SAW or inspection systems. B: Monochrome suitable for most processes (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, PAW) to provide the highest arc attenuation. C: Color suitable for GTAW and PAW. Generally recommended for tungsten definition and monitoring of in-groove welds. D: Monochrome image for LBW configured to view the positioning laser.
Without cooling, the PIXI operates safely up to 50°C (122°F). When utilizing the integrated water and air knife cooling options, it has been proven in environments up to 400°C (752°F).
Because of its small design (30Ø mm), the PIXI can fit into tight internal diameters and confined spaces where traditional welding cameras cannot reach, allowing for high-definition monitoring of internal pipe welds and cladding.
