Camera System Configuration

Our modular cameras are configurable to provide the optimal image for a given welding application, and our modular systems are also configurable so that you can reliably integrate a camera into your equipment, use the welding video in the most effective ways and display it in all of your desired locations. Some of our standard configurations are shown on our website; you can also browse our FAQs below to learn more. Frequently Asked Questions

For SAW or inspection, color A optics are selected. Monochrome (B and D) cameras provide greater light sensitivity, increased arc suppression and sharper images than color open-arc (C) cameras. Monochrome cameras are ideal for tracking applications where a wide field of view is essential. For some TIG/PAW and LBW applications, a color (C) image may be preferred. A: Color suitable for SAW or inspection systems. B: Monochrome suitable for most processes (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, PAW) to provide the highest arc attenuation. C: Color suitable for GTAW and PAW. Generally recommended for tungsten definition and monitoring of in-groove welds. D: Monochrome image for LBW configured to view the positioning laser.
Selecting the right lens depends on your camera model and the working distance and field of view requirements that your application necessitates. For most applications, we suggest a field of view that's 3-5x the weld width. Contact MeltTools for personalized assistance.
Certain camera models, like the DART2, APEX3, and TD22, feature a replaceable protective window. The protective windows are generally available in two grades: 1) A borosilicate glass protective window is designed to withstand high temperatures and also provides better image quality. However, welding spatter will tend to adhere to glass. 2) A polycarbonate protective window offers better resistance against spatter and is more economical, but image quality is slightly reduced compared to the image quality when utilizing a glass protective window.
Most of our camera systems are powered via a single cable from their respective controllers. We provide an international wall mounted power supply that works with 110-240V, 50-60Hz. Please check your product manual or contact us for specific power requirements.
Our camera systems are designed with robust shielding to minimize electromagnetic and radio frequency interference, ensuring consistent performance even in densely packed industrial environments.
Our direct-to-monitor systems are compatible with FHD SDI monitors. The PXC and PXCC1 controllers also have an HDMI output. We offer durable, cost-effective monitors that have been tested and proven effective for various applications. These are typically framed in metal and often protected with glass, and they are available in different sizes for display of 1-4 cameras.
MeltTools offers specialized monitors that can display feeds from up to four cameras. Alternatively you may purchase a DVR or USB frame grabber from us and follow our instructions to set up RSTP streaming if you want to record video and/or display over a network.
Yes, both camera types can work together to provide a comprehensive view of your work environment. We can incorporate an inspection camera into your MeltView camera system or you can independently purchase this type of overview camera.
Certainly. In our APEX3 systems, we incorporate an off-the-shelf microphone and record to our recommended software. We have also developed a microphone solution for applications where the operator needs to monitor processes like GMAW remotely.
